Toyota has been listening to feedback on its most iconic hybrid vehicle for decades now, constantly honing and improving not just the hybrid powertrain that makes it such an icon, but everything else about it as well. A couple of years ago, the Prius was completely redesigned to be sportier and more sophisticated than ever, both in design and performance. Now, both are getting enhanced even further in the 2019 Prius, thanks to a mid-generation refresh that sees some updated design and the introduction of the new AWD-e System.

One of the things that have held hybrid sedans back in the past is that a lot of sacrifices typically have to be made in order to gain the efficient benefits of the hybrid powertrain. Power was the most obvious, but other aspects of performance were neglected as well. Power was obviously addressed in the redesign of the Toyota Prius but driving in uncertain road conditions was still questionable behind the wheel of a Prius. Now, thanks to the new AWD-e system, drivers will be able to drive more confidently in much less ideal conditions, both in terms of weather and the road itself.
There will be specific 2019 Prius models featuring the AWD-e system, and those models will receive a host of other features and technologies. For instance, AWD-e models will feature both fog lamps and LED accent lamps that other Prius models will not. Plus, they’ll come equipped with two-tone 15” wheels, which is new to the model. This is just scratching the surface, and we’ll be sure to dive deeper into everything the all-new 2019 Toyota Prius has to offer in the coming weeks and beyond.
