Manhattan Beach volleyball went back to its roots this year. The 50th anniversary tournament drew another large crowd from Friday, Aug. 20, to Sunday, Aug. 22, when the pros came out to play the Crown Jewel of tournaments at the Manhattan Beach Pier for the Manhattan Beach Open.

Winners of the men's final were Redondo Beach natives Aaron Wachtfogel and Sean Rosenthal. The winners of the women's title were Tealle Hunkus and Heather Lowe. The grand prize for the teams was $4,000.

The games almost didn't take place when the Association of Volleyball Professionals closed its doors due to financial peril one week before it was scheduled to take place. The tournament was put on by the City of Manhattan Beach and sponsors such as John Elway's Manhattan Beach Toyota. Stadium seating and fences were waived so spectators brought beach chairs and blankets to enjoy the free games.

Representatives from John Elway's Manhattan Beach Toyota were also down at the beach for the weekend displaying a new Toyota Prius with a sun roof. And visitors of the premier South Bay event could win an autographed football from John Elway with no purchase necessary.

The team at John Elway's Manhattan Beach Toyota hopes you had a fantastic weekend and were able to make it to the Manhattan Beach Open presented by the city's Parks and Recreation department. Below are a few photos from the amazing weekend.
