The new Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid is a compact liftback that can drive on electricity alone for a manufacturer-estimated range of up to 44 miles on the SE grade, then switch to efficient hybrid operation for longer trips. It charges from a standard household outlet or a Level 2 charger, produces 220 horsepower and comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. It was formerly sold as the Prius Prime.
Manhattan Beach Toyota helps South Bay drivers make the move to plug-in power with straight answers and real support. We offer sales, financing, hybrid service and Genuine Toyota parts, all in one place. Call or contact us today and let us show you what a Prius Plug-in Hybrid can do for your commute.
Plug-in ownership is easier than most people expect. The Prius Plug-in Hybrid comes with a charging cable that works with a standard 120-volt household outlet, and a 240-volt Level 2 charger shortens the charge time considerably. A typical routine looks like this:
If you forget to plug in, nothing changes. The car simply operates as a regular hybrid until you charge again.
The two cars share a body, a cabin and the same 2.0-liter engine. The plug-in adds a much larger battery, a charge port and a more powerful electric motor, which raises output to 220 horsepower and allows extended electric-only driving. The standard Prius is lighter, offers available all-wheel drive and carries a higher hybrid mpg rating. The plug-in is front-wheel drive only.
The deciding question is simple: can you charge at home or at work? If yes, the plug-in can turn most short trips into electric trips. If no, the standard Prius will likely serve you better.
Three grades are offered: SE, XSE and XSE Premium. The SE rides on 17-inch wheels and has the longest estimated electric range. The XSE adds 19-inch wheels, SofTex-trimmed heated seats and a larger touchscreen. The XSE Premium adds a 12.3-inch display, a JBL audio system and an available solar roof that can trickle-charge the battery while the car is parked. Check the window sticker on each listing, since the equipment on a given car depends on its grade and options.
If you like the plug-in concept but need more space, the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid is the natural step up. It is an SUV with standard all-wheel drive, more cargo room and a higher seating position, and it also offers a long electric range. The Prius Plug-in Hybrid is lower, lighter and more efficient in hybrid mode. Choose based on how much you carry and whether you need AWD.
Yes. Toyota renamed the Prius Prime as the Prius Plug-in Hybrid beginning with the 2025 model year. Older listings or reviews may still use the Prime name.
Toyota's manufacturer estimate is up to 44 miles of all-electric range on the SE grade and up to 39 miles on the XSE and XSE Premium. Range varies with temperature, speed and driving style.
The included cable works with a standard household outlet. A 240-volt Level 2 charger shortens charging time to a few hours. Public Level 2 stations work as well. The Prius Plug-in Hybrid does not use DC fast charging.
No. It is front-wheel drive only. If you need AWD, consider the standard Prius or the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid.
It may be on the lot, in transit or still in production. Check the status on the listing and contact us with the stock number to confirm.
In most cases, yes. Contact us with the stock number and we will explain the reservation steps and deposit terms. Arrival dates are estimates and can change.
